Jaipur, The land of Raja’s and Maharajas is rich in its culture, traditions and cuisine. To know more about must visit places and what not to do in Jaipur, visit my post Jaipur, The pink City.
Rajasthani cuisine is a blend of spicy and sweet dishes. Rajasthani cuisine is well known for non-vegetarian dishes like Laal Maas, Mohan Maas etc. Since i am a vegetarian, i have listed down must try delicacies at Jaipur. So, are you ready for salivating?
1. Rajasthani Thali
Every restaurant in Jaipur will offer Rajasthani thali. This is purely royal. This thali will have all the famous delicacies from all over Rajasthan. Bajre ki roti (Millet Roti) , Dal Bhati churma tastes heavenly.
Cost for 1 is Approx INR 400 (USD 5.6)
2. Pandit Kulfi
Kulfi is a frozen Indian Dessert similar to Ice cream but is denser and creamier. I have not tasted any kulfi which tastes as good as Pandit Kulfi. A must visit place while at Jaipur. This shop is very close to Hawa Mahal. Just walk a few meters from Hawa Mahal and you will find Pandit Kulfi. They have Plain, Almond, Pistachios, Saffron flavoured kulfi’s. All are worth trying.
Costs Rs 20 or Rs 30 depending on the flavour.
3. Dal Bati Churma
Trip to Rajasthan is incomplete without trying Dal Bati Churma. Dal bati is an Indian dish of dal (lentils) and bati (hard wheat rolls). This dish is a specialty of Rajasthani cuisine and is something without which the flavour of Rajasthani dishes will feel incomplete.
4. Ghevar
Ghevar is a very special Rajasthani sweet dish specially prepared for an Indian festival named Teej/Rakshabhandan. It is disc-shaped sweet cake made with refined wheat flour and soaked in sugar syrup.
5. Rajasthani thali at Choki Dhani
Chokhi Dhani is a must visit place to experience the unique Rajasthani cuisine and culture. Real Rajasthan can be felt at Chokhi Dhani. Make sure to have a lot of jilebi’s (Indian Sweet) without even thinking of calories. Choki Dhani is known for their hospitality. Choki Dhani staff members are known to feed authentic Rajasthani food soaked in Ghee. Enjoy their hospitality! Do know forget to a take a selfie with the turban clad Chokhi dhani officials.
